All things new!

I can't believe how quickly time goes and things are changing once again! On 20th September 2008 I packed my bags and said farewell to the countryside of Northern Ireland to embark on the University adventure in Manchester. I remember the mixed emotions of excitement, nervousness, and fear as I stepped into the unknown. I quickly realised I was not prepared for the 3 years that were to come.

I moved into Whitworth Park Halls where I offloaded my things and it hit me that I was officially on my own. I discovered my 8 housemates were from Malaysia with 7 of them being Muslim, which was a complete shock to the system! I got the flu during Fresher's Week, which was bad timing and resulted in spending most of the week in my room (there is nothing worse than being sick on your own!). Having not met many new people on my course or in my Halls I felt lonely, home sick, and completely out of my depth. I quickly realised the importance of family and community where people know you, ask after you, and support you.

As the year progressed I got to know my housemates well and we spent many evening watching Britain's got Talent. I found out about CU and got involved where I met loads of Christians. I settled into University work and I started attending Ivy Mcr in Didsbury where I met more lovely people who got alongside me and supported me as I grew in faith and love for God.

University life has been up and down and I have changed, matured, and become independent but through it all God has been constant.
I have finished my Nursing degree and moving into the working life as I start my job in a couple of weeks. God has been so gracious to me over the past 3 years and led me into a loving church family and great friendships. I am just excited about what God will do next!

If you are a student, new to Manchester, or just feeling lonely check out churchinaclub and our grow groups where we are one big family who love God, hang out regularly, and love meeting new people.
